Riccardo Biondi was born in Milan in 1996. During his youth, he discovered traditional music from around the world and developed a strong interest in the American folk tradition, particularly the open-back banjo and folk guitar.
After graduating from Liceo Artistico Statale “di Brera” high school, he pursued lutherie, first attending an amateur course at Maestro Mario Rubio’s workshop and then enrolling at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria in Milan. There, he studied with Maestros Zanchi, Bonardi, and Van de Kerckhove and completed an organological thesis and a philological reconstruction of the Corsican Cetera of “Merusaglia”.
After finishing his studies, he trained at Maestro Aldo Illotta’s workshop and continued working there professionally. His main interests lie in classical and folk guitar, with a particular focus on metal string construction models from the first half of the 20th century.
Since September 2024 he has been collaborating with the Accademia Liuteria Piemontese San Filippo as the Master of the specialization course in construction of the acoustic guitar.
